When Bigotry Becomes Policy: A Congressman Says the Quiet Part Out Loud

Sometimes the clearest warning signs for a democracy are not hidden in secret documents or whispered behind closed doors....they’re posted in plain sight by the very people elected to defend it.

Take a step back and look at the absurdity of this moment for a second. A sitting member of Congress, Randy Fine, publicly posts that America needs MORE Islamophobia. Not less bigotry… more of it.

He even calls the fear of an entire religion “rational.”

Think about what that actually means.

There are roughly 2 billion Muslims on Earth. They live in democracies, monarchies, secular republics, villages, cities, universities, hospitals, and businesses across the planet.

They serve in the U.S. military. They are doctors, engineers, small-business owners, and teachers in American communities. To say that fear of all of them is “rational” isn’t policy analysis....it’s just old-fashioned prejudice with a congressional salary attached to it. A SIMPLE, LOW-IQ, DUMBASS, MAGA-REPUBLICAN. I hyphenated that because there is a movement within the Republican Party to reestablish normalcy.

America was not built on religious loyalty tests. The very FIRST line of the FIRST Amendment slams the door on that nonsense. The founders had just finished watching Europe tear itself apart over religion for centuries. Their solution was simple and brilliant: government stays out of religion, and religion stays out of government persecution. Simple as that! Not for MAGA.

When a member of Congress openly advocates fear of a religion, he isn’t defending America. He’s arguing against the Constitution he swore an oath to uphold. DERELICTION OF DUTY

Now layer that on top of the broader civic moment we’re living through. Reelecting Donald Trump after the events of the January 6 attack on the United States Capitol was one of the most profound failures of civic judgment in modern American history. Not because of party politics....because of precedent.

Once a nation shrugs at an attack on its own democratic process, the guardrails start to come loose.

History has a habit of collecting the receipts for those moments. Democracies rarely collapse in a single dramatic explosion. They erode....slowly, awkwardly, sometimes grotesquely....through the normalization of rhetoric that would have once ended a political career overnight...

Remember Gary Hart? Hart was the leading Democratic candidate in 1987. Brilliant, young, reform-minded… basically the guy many thought would be the next president. Then reporters started hearing rumors about a woman walking off his yacht .... uh oh !!! He was a womanizer.

NOW -- we seem to be moving toward normalizing PEDOPHILIA!! We already know for a fact that Trump is an adulterer. A Convicted FELON. An adjudicated rapist.

That’s what makes posts like this so disturbing. They aren’t just offensive. They are signals that parts of our political culture are drifting away from the core American idea that citizens are judged by their actions.... Nothing disqualifies a candidate anymore ..

The FRUITCAKES went bizzark when Clinton tried to answer a question about marijuana from his college days.

His line became legendary: he said he had “experimented with marijuana, but didn’t inhale.” That sentence launched about ten thousand late-night jokes and roughly a billion eye-rolls.

At the time it was treated like a massive scandal. Cable news panels clutched their pearls. Commentators acted like Western civilization might crumble because a guy admitted he’d once been near a joint. The phrase became a punchline overnight.

Other Randy Fine Issues

Now we have a Secretary of Health and Human Services who was a 30-year heroin addict. And just last week bragged about snorting cocaine off the toilet seat !!!

The country many of us grew up believing in....a loud, messy, pluralistic democracy where people of wildly different beliefs could live side by side....feels further away than it used to.

We need to get this under control now. The country we love, defend, and proudly brag about isn’t guaranteed forever. If we stop protecting it, it can disappear faster than we ever imagined.

Patriotism, after all, isn’t a spectator sport. Democracies aren’t antiques you polish once a year…they’re more like gardens. Stop tending them and the weeds move in with shocking enthusiasm.
