If you were young in Richmond when J. Sutter’s Mill was going strong, you didn't need a five-page cocktail menu, artisan appetizers or some bartender explaining where the damn ice came from.

You needed cheap drinks, something to eat, loud music and a room packed with young people looking for a good time.

J. Sutter’s Mill was owned by Billy Luxon, a former member of the legendary Kentucky band Exile, ("Kiss You All Over") giving the place a genuine connection to Kentucky music history. But Sutter’s wasn't trying to be some fancy music museum. It was a BAR .... THE BAR !!  A wonderfully uncomplicated Richmond watering hole with an affordable menu, inexpensive drinks and music played at a volume apparently designed to make conversation completely unnecessary.

And THAT was the charm.

You went to Sutter’s to meet friends, hear music, have a few drinks and perhaps make a couple of decisions that seemed considerably more intelligent at midnight than they did the next morning.

This shirt brings back a little piece of that Richmond era .... when the drinks were cheap, the music was loud, the crowd was young and nobody had a damn cellphone documenting the evidence.  THANK GOD!!
